AI technologies should not follow the same path toward centralization and monopolization that has affected other technology markets, at the expense of users’ rights. But the scale of computing resources that many AI technologies require, along with barriers to interoperability, threaten to put our AI future in the hands of a few large corporations, leading to less pro-user innovation and less accountability. Unnecessary licensing agreements for training data between AI providers and the largest copyright holders are also raising barriers to smaller, and potentially more responsible AI innovators.

EFF fights dangerous laws that the largest companies use to block interoperability and pro-user innovation. EFF also promotes Open Source AI and effective antitrust enforcement.
